HEALTH ISSUES (VACINATIONS, MALARIA, MEDICATION, PHYSICAL CONDITION ETC)
PHYSICAL CONDITION
In order to fully enjoy
what the Amazon rain forest boasts, most excursions will include a fair
number of walks and hikes (both daylight and nightime) varying in
duration. These hikes can be (exceptions exist) individualized to suit
the preferences and abilities of the group. In addition, other
activities like canoeing and swimming are often part of a program. If
you are unsure whether or not your current physical condition is
appropriate for a given destination, feel free to consult us.

WHAT WILDLIFE WILL I LIKELY SEE?
First, the
Amazon basin is undoubtedly one of the most biodiverse regions on the
planet - not only in terms of flora but also fauna. The Amazon
region is often refered to as the 'lungs' of the planet. Yes, there is a
great deal of pure and fresh air to breath!
The list
of fauna is literally endless. However, don't go with the idea of
a National Geography or Discovery Planet notion of teems of wildlife
around your feet. The most interesting and unusual wildlife are
shy and difficult to spot in the dense ecosystem. The more
commonly enjoyed wildlife can include bizarre insects, tropical birds
(parrots, tucans, macaws etc), pink river dolphins (in select areas),
river otters, snakes, cayman, three toed sloths and numerous
butterflies.
The variation
and range of wildlife vary from region to region, but from our
experience some of the widest range of wildlife if found in between
Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and Yasuni National Park (e.g., Napo Wildlife
Center, Sacha Lodge, Selva Lodge and Sani Lodge are found here).

WHAT KIND OF WEATHER TO EXPECT?
Daytime
temperatures generally range from 80° F (26° C) to 98° F
(36° C). Nights cool off, while the early morning period is the
coolest. Being the Amazon basin, it can
rain (hence the term "rain forest") at anytime of the year, but
rainstorms tend to be light and
transient rather than continuous.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?
As there is
generally little (or no) variation in the temperatures, weather patterns
or number of daylight hours, one can visit the Amazon any time of the
year. One month is just as good as another for viewing the wildlife.
